Hi guys got a question.
I fish the forest preserves quite a bit with fathead minnows for crappie and bass. But with the warm water, my minnows die within 5 minutes. What's the temperature range in using minnows? This 80 degree water plus is reeking havoc and considering going to leeches.

Try the berkley gulp alive minnows, you will not go back to live bait. You can get them in the 2" size that would work nicely for crappie.

Slowley add the warm lake water to the bucket untill they are acclimated.I have the same problem ice fishing but a handful of ice in the bucket saves the minnows from going into shock. Or gulp as wsj said.

Warm water has the double whammy of increasing the minnows' metabolic rate and holding less oxygen. Get an aerator and stop by the pet store for some water conditioner. I like Prime.

Gulp and it’s cheaper! Live bait is getting expensive.
