I'm going down to Newton Lake this weekend for a bass tournament. I've never been down there and it's been really tough to find any info online. What can you tell me about the place?

I’ve never been there but according to john Gillespie’s show there is only one plant working so the fishing is best this time of year. He also said to look for the steep shorelines and there will be nice drop offs and the fishing is good on those drops.

Gillespie films a show there every year around this time. Look up his youtube page and you'll see the last few years shows. He usually fishes it with this guy Matt who is very informative during the show.

Thanks guys. I've heard the power plant is pretty much shut down. I'll check out the Gillespie site.

My buddy is down there now and has gotten several 4lb plus fish working main lake points very tight to the reeds. Either pitching plastics or a spinnerbait has been his baits of choice so far.

Well, a front blew in Thursday and killed the bite. Friday was overcast with a stiff wind directly out of the north. I couldn't stay on the main lake in my kayak. Worked the pockets and coves without much luck, just a few nips. Saturday, it rained an inch to accompany the north wind. Fish could be found very tight to the reeds, but it took finesse plastics and patience. Sunday was sunny with a west wind, but the bite wasn't much better. I got a few on a Texas-rigged craw pitching to the reeds. Lots of follows and light taps, but few takers.
