Start around 6:30am dropshoting minnows. Caught about 7 or 8 perch and kept only 3(two 10", 13"). Bite was pretty consistent all morning. Perch bite died off around 11am ...so I move to a new spot.

Start to used a slip rig with minnows, 10mins goes by without any nibble...then Wham!!, my float goes straight down. I set the hook and my drag peels out... I'm thinking I have mother of all perch by the way the drag is peeling out. After playing the fish for 3mins, I'm thinking there is no way this is perch(which means carp). I finally bring it to the surface and really surprise to see that its a brown football. OMG. I brought no net because i was perching. I had to overcome almost 8 - 10lb brown up a 5 ft breakwall with 4lb leader. I was screwed... it took me almost 40mins to land this fish in a very creative way ...

Here is a picture:

Pleasant surprise , major pain at the same time. Was surprise to see a brown, so late in the day, so close to shore this time of the year. Very unusual.

Nicely done on 4 lb test.

You never know what you going to get on the big pond.

So.......just what was the "creative way" on landing the fine fish?

Good job regardless.

Well, Try two methods:

#1: Stringer, Five gallon bucket.

After fooling with it for 30mins, gave up. Came very close to getting it done several times, but very difficult to control 5 gallon bucket with little current with one hand and big brown on a pole with other hand. Would have worked if I had another set of hands.

#2: Stringer, Snap Swivel, Hook

Getting the hook in the mouth was the difficult part. Took me 10mins, but was able to bring him out.

Hope this helps out a another angler who get stuck in similar predicament.
