I know wind direction and speed has a big impact on where I fish on a lake. Does anyone have an opinion for wind on the river or does the current negate the winds effect?

I have nothing to back this up...but I would say the wind has a negligible effect on a small river like the Kankakee, but could on something a bit wider like the St Clair or Mississippi. I briefly looked through the book Walleye Wisdom which has some good information on river fishing and another chapter devoted to weather. It did indicate that river fish seem to be less affected by barometer changes which is often accompanied by wind.

Agreed, not much if any impact - some people might say it has an effect on the bite but I only think it impacts boat control and line direction(if you are fishing from shore) which directly impact the bite as if you don't have good boat control your presentation will be wrong, or your line is bowed and you can't detect a shore bite.

I'll agree with Mhimes and Rat after fighting that wind today. It just totally messes up your presentation.I have seen a few times over the years gale force west winds beating against the current dirty up the water pretty good.
