So I finally figured out why my 1991 Suzuki DT 40MC would not idle down all the way. Found this black cap physically preventing the spring lever from returning all the way. The lever is connected to another lever which closes the disc inside the carburetor. I nudged the black cap loose but I haven't been able to remove it yet. Hands are too big and I don't have long enough pliers etc. Does anyone have a clue what it might be? It's about 3/4 to 1" in diameter. Ive been looking at part diagrams trying to figure it out..

Probably doesn't have a home in the boat. Maybe a foreign cap that found its way down there?

Automotive 4 finger 24 or 32 inch Claw Grabber. Inexpensive and they come in handy.

I actually have one if those. Hopefully the part will be more identifiable once I get it out. I was so close to taking apart my carburetor too.

Pulled it out, still don't know what it is. The number 14 is printed on the head. The part grabber worked perfectly.

Go to Suzuki's website and look at their drawings

http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Suzuk ... parts.html

If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Looks like a plug used to blind off an unused hole. Check the bottom and top covers.

That's what I thought. Maybe on bottom cover.... where you could run accessory control wires/cables.

Do as Yogi Berra would've - Throw it away. "You know won't know you need it until you need it".
