Ok... Here's the problem. I had to replace my tail lights on my boat trailer( got new LED). So I plugged the lights into my Rav 4 hook up ( plug has 4 lights on it) and noticed that the left trailer light was not signaling for left turn. Thought the wiring was bad until I noticed the harness from the Rav4 has a light tit for left turn signal. And it is on all the time even with the engine off. So I suspect there is a problem with the Rav;s harness. Anyone have an idea as to why?

Check you connector on your Rav make sure its good there or have a buddy hook up to your trailer and see if there is any difference.

Is the trailer on the ball? If not you may not have the proper ground to make the turn signal work. I spent some time trying to figure out what was wrong with mine once. Gave up and hooked up the trailer to the truck to take it to a pro, and it worked.

Bad grounds cause all kinds of problems. Just sitting on the ball is not a good ground.

If you can't get it go to Hub Trailer in Tinley Park those guys are fantastic over there.I had a problem with my Equinox and it was in the fuse box in the engine compartment where I never would have thought to look.

All good suggestions.
Same happened to me in two occasions two different suv. Once, it was bad grounding didnt see that there's tiny open wire exposed touching the trailer.
The other, my recent suv needs new fuse.
So i got this at auto zone around $10 and it did help me troubleshoot the problem. You can able to find out right away if its the car harness or the trailer wirings.

I think I'm gonna switch to wireless trailer lights next. I deal with trailer issues every dang year!

I rewired my trailer , with LED lights , about 5 yrs ago . When I did that , I ran a separate Grnd. wire , with the harness , The lights have a power wire and the Grnd wire gets connected directly to the trailer , ( thus setting the trlr. on the ball ) I did that , as well as attaching the separate grnd wire . Then I ran it to the tounge and the plug ,, again attaching it to the trailer , harness , and plug ,,,,,, BASICALLY a redundant grngd. I have had ZERO problems since doing that ,,, except for slight corrosion on the plug pins itself ,,, AND THAT JUST HAPPENS ,, Hope this helps ,

Good Luck and Safe Trips ,,,,, Walldady

PS , some villages require a lit tail light for on street overnight parking ,,,

some toyotas and VWs require a adapter from dealer especially if you have yellow turn signals or led tail lights on tow vehicle
