Here is a recap of this past week’s fishing.

Bass have been very good on tip-ups and jigging spoons along the outside weed lines adjacent to deeper water in the main basin. Bluegill are scattered in the main basin so stay mobile to find active fish. Tungsten jigs tipped with a Maki poli have been the best presentation. A few smaller bass can be taken as well on this presentation. Ice is holding at 4 inches with another half inch of frozen slush. Stay clear of areas with current or were kept open by waterfowl.

It’s been a while since we had fishable ice south of I-80. Ice is at 4 inches with some frozen slush on top. Bass have been good mid morning on tip downs with large fatheads. They can also be caught jigging Kenders t-rip tipped with multiple spikes or smaller fatheads.
Bluegills have been excellent from mid-morning to late afternoon. Work the weeds lines in 8-10 feet adjacent to deeper water. Stay mobile to keep up with the fish. Best bait has been the google eye glow jigs tipped with wax worms or spikes.

Here is a recap of this past weeks fishing.

Area lakes-the cold front that pushed through last last week helped start building some ice. Ice was a solid 5 inches with another half inch of frozen slush. The front had fish tight to cover. Bluegills were on fire early to mid-morning in 7-8 feet of water in thick weeds. Best bait was tungsten jigs tipped with multiple spikes as live bait was out fishing plastics. A few bass could be had as well. The most productive color was glow pink even though color really didn’t seem the matter.

Before the winter storm hit yesterday, the bluegill bite was decent during early morning hours. Best bait were spikes and waxies on tungsten jigs in the 8-9 foot range with green weeds present. The bite slowed mid morning to early afternoon hours.

A few fish could be pulled out of each hole using a combination of live bait and plastics. Staying mobile was important to pull out the aggressive fish from the hole. Once the lookers came in, it was time to move. Changing colors and size on the jigs didn’t seem to matter.

A few quality bass were had throughout the day as well. Always fun to catch them on panfish setups.

Here is a recap of this past weeks fishing.

Area lakes-snowpack is making travel difficult. A foot of snow in places with slush under that will get you 6 inches of clear ice with another 4 of frozen slush. Ice is building slowly with the snow blanket on top. Going forward the rest of the ice season it will be critical to stay on top of the green weeds. Light penetration will be limited as the snow pack is not going away anytime soon.

Bass have been excellent despite the cold front that moved it. Best bait has been the 13 fishing bamf plastic jigged in 8-9 feet of water along the outside weed lines adjacent to the main basin drop. Bubblegum has been the most consistent color.

Bluegill have also been excellent in 7-8 feet of water holding in good weed clumps. Best bait has been a purple glow tungsten jig tipped with multiple spikes.

The bite has been consistent mid-morning to mid-afternoon. The frigid temps have not shut down the bite.

Ice is 8 inches with another 2 inches of frozen slush on top of a growing snow pack. Staying mobile is becoming more difficult with another significant snowfall coming.

Bass have been excellent early morning hours despite the frigid morning temps. The bite slows however by mid-morning. Best bait has been jigging spoons tipped with waxies along outside weedlines.

Bluegill have been decent on tungsten jigs tipped with multiple spikes. Live bait has been out producing plastics of late. An aggressive rising jigging action will trigger the active gills from the pack.



Here is a very interesting. While going back out to a lake I had fished a couple days earlier, a coyote decided to mark its turf on one of my old holes. Message received.

Ice is holding at 8 inches of clear ice with another 4 inches of frozen slush. The snow pack has some areas hard to get to. Finding accessible areas has been a bit of a challenge.

Bass have been the most consistent bite over the past week. Best presentation has been large fatheads on tip downs and jigging a Clam Maki polli on tungsten jigs. Mid-morning and early afternoon hours have been best.

Bluegill have been very finicky no matter what presentation is offered. They come in and light up the flasher like a Christmas tree, but getting them to commit takes some work. The aggressive ones seem to turn on early afternoon.

This coming weeks warmup should trigger a more constant bite.
