Went out early Saturday morning, had some intermittent bites between intermittent showers and my fishing partner managed to land this 28" flathead (around 8.5 pounds, interesting as my initial guess was ten).

I also got a small channel cat whose mouth was hardly larger than my bait!

Nice fish!!! Looks like spawing season is on it's way or has already started.

Seems a bit early for spawning, but the water temps are getting to the mid-70s now. Probably the most rough looking fish I've had in the boat over the years!

I've only caught one catfish since I got my 20# flathead over 2 weeks ago. They gotta be going into spawn. It has been really tough fishing the past two weeks. I went out the last two nights from 5p-2am and have caught absolutely NOTHING!

Shawn maybe right...I'm just basing it on how beat up the fish looks. I'm also out of state so i can't back it up if they are or not.

Mindfloodz- I'm not sure if you're fishing by boat or on shore, but moving around is the key. If time permits, try fishing for them in the daytime hrs. From my experience, it's a little easier to find the fish when they're home rather than when they're out prowling.

I went to a spot I never fished on the Illinois River and caught 9 channels in about 6 hours. Most cats I ever caught in one night. So, channels are def not spawning, lol. Moving around was certainly key
