Do these pics ring any bells for those of us who were reading newspapers in this time span ? My bet is yes.

Tomorrow or Saturday I will post some links as FYI for those who started later..........Murph810

Hmmm, I thought there would be a few guys my age who might remember the logo of Jim Phillips of Montgomery, ---better known as "The Fox", who , in the late 60's, began a one man campaign to bring attention to the rampant, ( you name the type) of pollution being dumped in to the river by companies, etc located on or near its shores.
He capped smokestacks, clogged drains, and was responsible for many acts of vandalism and sewer backups in order to stop polluters from dumping into the Fox River in Illinois. He would leave his logo and sometimes a message at the sites he "Foxed". He was called a well-loved and highly regarded local environmentalist or a home-grown ecological saboteur..........Murph810

That's great stuff Murph. I started fishing the Fox in the mid 80's when I got a job in Batavia. The river was still much dirtier than it is now, but we would still catch an occasional Walleye, and think about how great it would be to catch more. Nowadays Walleye are a regular catch when you target them, and often while fishing for Smallies. Can't help but think we owe much of this to "The Fox".

I just picked up a canoe in the fall and now I will have to make a point to take a float down Jim's favorite 12 mile stretch to check out some ancient Red Pines! Thanks for sharing!

I have heard of this guy, although I only started fishing the river in the last six years or so. I can't help but feel a debt of gratitude to him. The Fox is one of my favorite fisheries and it's rebound is attributed to activists like him.
