Well, this story starts out about the same as the last walleye I caught out of the dupage a few months ago. After finishing up my last final at college today, I jumped right in the car and made the 5 hour drive back home to catch the evening bite at the Dupage with Copper.
I wasn't very optimistic for this evening due to the fact that I was out of my white twister tails and because of the low temps we've had the past week. Luckily I had a few chartruese twisters left in my box, so I decided to use that for the evening. There was little to show for the first hour and a half of fishing, other than a few coyotes making an appearance near Copper :scared.
With not even a hit since I arrived and the sun quickly setting, I decided to give a shot at the deeper hole that I caught my last walleye out of a few months ago. Sure enough, I had another personal best walleye waiting for me in the slack water of this hole. Originally it was only Copper and I when I caught this fish, but I ended up calling one of my buddies to meet me for a picture and a measurement of the fish. Ended up measuring her at 29 1/2 inches, took a few pictures, and sent her on her way to hopefully fill the Dupage with more like her. This was the only fish I caught all evening and wouldn't have had it any other way. Needless to say, after catching this fish, I guess I have once again caught a fish of a lifetime out of the Dupage.

Having seen the first post and remembering not leaving a comment, the first thing I did was go back to - 9/1/17 in DuPage and reread it. Then looked at this post again, then I shook my head swallowed my gum and let out a long low Daammmm! So when are we going walleye fishing AJ? Extremely serious urban fish my friend congratulations!

It's A Wonderful Life, when you catch two fish of a lifetime in three months.

Good to have you home.

Another behemoth! The Dupage has been full of surprises this year. Man I wish they'd knock down the dams that block the Des Plaines.

Nice job, the twister tail has got to be the best bait of all time for general fishing action.

Question...do you think it's the same fish as before? I don't recall the size of the first one.

I'd love to think we have another pecatonica like river developing here in the dupage.

Mhimes, the two walleye I caught are definitely two different fish. The first one I caught was 28 inches and much skinnier. I also lost another walleye earlier in the year at the same hole, so I would have to think there are more than just a few in the area I'm fishing.

I would think that any that somehow end up with the river could do quite well with lack of competition. Plenty of forage and enough depth and rocky areas. Not sure how a larger population would do though. My guess is there would be a lack of adequate spawning substrate to sustain a significant number of walleyes.
