Hi all, I'm new to the forum and new to Illinois. I'm hoping to get a couple of chances to catch some fish before it gets too cold and I'm wondering how much longer the smallmouth in the Dupage and Fox rivers will be active, and what folks would recommend in terms of lures or flies to target local smallies.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome aboard. Look at jmdogs and creekyknees past posts for a ton of stream and river SM posts. They both share well written and detailed posts about their moving water SM passion. Creekyknees apparently still believes carrying a camera in your waders is akin to bringing a banana onto a boat. SM will bite when it's too cold for you to comfortably / safely fish in waders. Personally I enjoy the fall as SM are very active mid day. I'll usually chase them until the big leaf drop complicates retrieves wait a week for the flush and then on the warm days.

I must defer to our resident bass killer, jmdog. If he says he is not catching, that means the fishing is over and they have all migrated south (or wherever they go).
