Awoke early, fed the dog and took the ultralight to the west branch. For the first 20 minutes, I did not get a nibble on a Chompers worm. I guess I must have been throwing my worm in back of them because I immediately started to get smallies after I waded about 20-30 feet upstream. Boy, they were hugging a rocky outcrop since I banged the worm on the rock and as soon as it hit the water, a fish was on. Most of the 1/2 dozen were about 9" but I landed a nice (15"-16" after measuring it against my rod) one which must have been lurking under low hanging (touching the water) branches. Another one of those "Oh, you bought a net, why don't you bring it" moments but it could have been "you got a net with you; for what?".
The river is low and clear and I did not see any of the carp which should be mating.
