The river is on fire. In 3 1/2 hours ended up with 19 smallies and 4 rock bass. Almost all of the smallies were 13"-17". 1/8th oz BPS saltwater jig with a 4" Powergrub did the most damage but got a couple on a float n fly rig too. I'll let the pics do the talking.

The bite was still going after the sun had gone down. This guy bit at 4:57 p.m., immediately after a rock bass and two smallmouth lost to botched landings.

That's awesome man! I was getting ready to pack mine away cuz this fall has not been good to me but might not now if I can catch some fall smallies. What section of the river did you hit?
Thanks,

UA

As usual, you murdered them. The smallies ought to have a wanted picture of you. I have not packed away the ultralight but did so with the fly rod. Have been too busy getting the yard and house and cars and snowblower ready for the winter. Your photos always inspire me to get ought there and return with a runny nose.

"What section of the river did you hit?"

Did a shoreline spot hop through Bolingbrook and Naperville. It's been a great autumn on the river chuck. This is by far my best year fishing the Dupage. My average size and numbers are exceptional this season.

I have not been wading lately so I just parked in the Naperville downtown and walked the riverwalk with the ultralight. I picked up a few small ones and 1 or 2 to make your list. With the snow, the water should be getting cold and stifling the bite.
My son gave me a box of carp flies. So, springtime, I am going to concentrate on these bruisers. It would be real fun to tie one on the fly rod. Might not last long (like me stepping into the ring with Tyson) but it would be interesting.

Those carp are tanks. I caught two this year on fairly stout spinning gear so I'd imagine a fly rod would be intense.
