It's slow all over right now with the water being turned up.

I went from 11 am until 4 pm last Saturday

Nothing but dinks for most people there until about 12. Best seemed to be 1-3:30 for me. Got dinged for $26 parking. By 4pm
they were pretty much done.

Used perch rigs...1 hook fat head minnow, 1 hook shrimp. Caught them equally. Buying minnows
not required. Hearing octopus and squid working well....stays on hook longer. Got limit of 10"ers..nothing bigger.

I have been to the pier 5 times. now. Always around this time. The larger fish seem consistant during this time.

I have no idea whether early morning is any better.

BTW, it was cold. I could only find hot chocolate at Starbucks. Stupidly agreed to whipped cream....it melted immediately
shrinking my (2) 16 oz to 12 oz. I paid over $10 for this luxury. First time to Starbucks ever, as I am not a coffee drinker.
Sadly it was watered down, clearly not their specialty. Jus sayin'

Perch bite all day and will bite in the dark if you're using a bait they can find. Morning is sometimes better if it's really really cold but I've never found time of day to matter much when they're stacked up thick like they are this time of year. Using the right lure (and using lures instead of live bait) is more important for getting a better keeper:dink ratio than the time of day in my experience.

Might want to wait another day or two before trying to let the water clear up a bit more though.

Was it the storm? just curious.

Big winds from the south, east, and north always wreck the water.

Was planning on heading out to Navy Pier or 87th Street this Saturday in the morning. Supposed to be pretty windy. Will it even be worth it to try? I don't want to drive somewhere just to fish for a few hours with no bites.

Hit the Pier for an hour or so this a.m. Water is Chalk and not even a sniff. I don't expect it to get any better any time soon.

Watching these reports.

I was hoping to get out on Sunday but I'm wondering if the rain / thunderstorms that are expected on Saturday will just make things worse?

How about Montrose?

WKF I'm doing well. I've done really well at the Pier until this last storm hit. Those high winds and wave drove the Perch back out into the lake. I'll try somewhere South in the a.m. and see if anything is moving down there. I am single again and now live in beautiful downtown Burbank....Il.

jtrembac I limited out in the river from my boat today.Had to go pretty far in to escape the silted water. The bite was really light today, sometimes with the rod tip just bending down a little.Size was good a couple gut hooked 9s and the rest 10s and 11s and my first jumbo of the year.If anybody wants to try from shore look for a spot south of 92nd bridge.

Ok, so where do I launch to fish the river? Or where can I legally park and fish the river from shore. Never fished down there before and would like to give it a shot.

Thanks

Closest place is 95th cal park. And is free after labor day.

Like wilbur said, also Hammond marina is another mile south of there and I think is free this time of year. The river is a 5 minute ride to the north out of cal park and just keep going in till you see cleaner water.I hope todays stiff east winds didn't drive the silt way up the river as I'd like to go monday. As far as those shore spots it's best to go in the boat once and take note of where guys are fishing and where they might be parking.
