Another nice carp from the same pond on a size 12 beadhead nymph.

The water was much higher because of the rain so there was a lot more "stalking" involved - watching the bubbles and tail swirls to anticipate where they're headed, then cast, cast, cast until it's placed right. I went 1 for 3 (2 missed hook-ups). Spooked a couple more.

You are decimating them, Smitty. I am going to try the Duper with your method hopefully next week. I guess I will cast upstream into the current and let the current float the nymph toward me as I strip.

Thanks, but I definitely wouldn't say "decimating"! This pond just happens to be easy to fish and I'm still only averaging 1 fish per outing. I went to a different pond yesterday and got skunked!

If you're able to get to them from upstream, another option would be to let your line float down with the current to the point you want, then keep the fly there, moving it around as you like. The goal is to put the fly as close as you can in front of them to get their attention, but not spook them.

Ponds are easier for this since you don't have to deal with the current, but on the other hand, they're harder because the fish can see you better.

There's lots of instructional videos on you tube. I'd also recommend anything written by Barry Reynolds.
