Although this minor question is associated to any type of fishing, I posted it here because, well, I did not see a more appropriate section.
It really should have no weight in purchasing a rod but it does. Even the mfr's point out their rod has a nice (green, blue,..) color. A garish, yellow rod, which may have quality attributes otherwise, may not get the nod simply because it's ugly. Right? Now, be honest. My fiberglass Heddons, which the mfr tried to copy a bamboo appearance has more appeal than my Sage Vantage which is some shade of yellow-orange with a mix of olive (or some other poor color) while my new TFO has a dark green and the Orvis Clearwaters are a nice shade of blue. Maybe it is just me, maybe I need to get back on the water and clear my head of such thoughts.

Well, include Orvis' new fiberglass fly rod to the collection of ugly. I happened to be at the Yorktown store, using up my $25 coupon, when I was shown the rod. An uglier color would be hard to imagine. It had the color of pea soup and the finish was almost as if it was incomplete. Now, I know that proof is in the performance but I have 2 1960's Heddon Black Beauties that put the Orvis to shame. Aside from being heavier, I think I paid $20 (new) back then for the 5 wt, 9 ft Pal.
Next, you wil see the mfr's quietly dropping the 4, 5 and 6 pc rods and going to 2 and 3 pc. Beam functions my friends.
