I saw Cabela's ad and called their online service and purchased a CGR 5wt, 7ft fiberglass rod. For $40, I figured what the heck. Got it, yesterday, and wiggled it a little. It's a ton more flexible than my old Heddon Black Beauty, 5wt 9ft, rod so it may be interesting how it casts. It's also lighter and thinner at the handle so the taper is different. It also came with a hard case and is not that ugly pea green that Orvis has (and a few hundred bucks cheaper).
So, it is getting time to don the waders and wave the stick.

That's really a great price for a rod and case. Let us know how it performs after the baptism.

I have the 50th anniversary version of the 7’ 4/5 rod. I really like it, it casts best for me with a 5wt weight forward line.

I picked up the 6ft 3in 2wt CGR late last year. I paired it up with a Redington 2/3 Zero reel and 2WT double taper Rio line. So much fun to cast! Delicate presentation with dries, can even turn over smaller streamers around 20-30ft out. Pan fish are a blast, can hold its own with smaller bass. Can't wait to get it on some small stream trout water. I may get the 3wt and another spool for a micro-skagit rig.

Yup, it's just about time for a full go on the 2018 fishing season. Don't forget your new license everyone!

Got the license but the arthritis in my knees may need surgery and I am planning for June-July. 3 Weeks ago, a baker's cyst in my left knee ruptured and the fluid flowed into my calf upon which it blew up like a balloon and the pain made it difficult to even put weight on that foot. Visits to the ortho doc confirmed the problem...hopefully but two past eruptions have the doctor sort of shaking his head. So, no going in the river, no unnecessary walking,...., until I get an MRI, Monday, and he can determine what is going on.
So, the rod sits with the others.
Therefore, until I can ge back in the game, you fellows will need to post the stories so I can be there vicariously.
