I got out yesterday to another urban spot. It was very windy, but I had a good feeling about hunting that day.
I climbed into my stand at 4:25. At 4:30 I noticed movement to my west. A small 5 came out. Right behind him was a nice 10.
I stood up and waited for him to come into a shooting lane. When he finally presented a clear shot I let an arrow fly. @#%% I hit a small branch I didn't see.
The deer ran off a few yards. I nocked another arrow and let out a few soft grunts. They both turned a came back towards me.
The 10 stopped behind a bush at 22 yards. The wind was howling. the brim of my hat kept flopping in my face, and my eyes were watering. After what seemed like hours he stepped out and I let another arrow fly. Good hit, right through the vitals. The deer bounded off, and I was able to breathe again.
I waited a bit and climbed down. I found my arrow covered in blood. There was a good blood trail for 35-40 yards. I found my buck with his head leaning against a tree.
I hunted this stand last year in similar windy conditions. A big 12 came out of the same trail right when I was putting on my face mask, and he busted me. I never saw that deer again.
I know there are some bigger bucks in the area. I'm hoping that me or my son will get the opportunity at one of them.

Congrats Mikes! Heck of a buck and a great way to start the year!

My dad put an arrow through coyote yesterday and I went out for a bit today and tried to find him. Checked the camera and have only had a basket rack 8 and a doe on there in the last week. No bigs ones at all and usually we have a couple good ones.

Congrats again, he is a great buck!

Mike,

Very nice!!!

It is not often that a 10 point will circle back after being missed by an arrow..

Congrats on a fine harvest.

Yea baby!! BBD!!! That's a great looking buck man, congrats. Beautiful shot placement too. We loaded the freezer this weekend but no horns yet. Taking a youth out this weekend and maybe the next weekend try to get on some horns. Again, great buck, very nice!

Wow! Superb descriptive story on how it occurred. Love it! Good hunts happen like that. Maybe if Papa deer wasn't so macho and trying to impress that 5 pt'er, he wouldn't have responded to those fatal soft calling grunts!

Thanks for sharing. Nice deer. :D

Nice buck Mike!
You can't certainly complain about a great deer like that with a bow!
