Was looking to get a 10/22 savage or ruger, but the 17hmr round caught my eye.
Im leaning towards a 17 cal rifle now. Want to hear what you guys think? Pros and cons :thanks

The one thing I can tell you is the 17hmr rounds cost a lot more than .22's but if you don't intend on shooting a bunch than it might not be a big deal.

That was an issue i had, is the cost of the ammo worth it. I have a gamo 22 air rifle that i like much more than the .177. I think im gonna have to shoot both rifles and decide from there. If anyone has shot both can you give me your opinion. :thanks mike

Depends what you really want to do with it. The 17HMR is a fun little rifle to shoot, and a good round for small game. But if you plan to do a lot of plinking or target shooting, it can get pricey quick.

IMO, there isn't much you can do with the 17 you can't do with the 22. And you can burn bricks of ammo for next to nothing, and for critters there are a number of specialty rounds available. I've killed a lot of coyotes with a copper jacketed 'stinger' round to the noggin.

Hey SGTSKI,
It depends on what you want to shoot with it, take a look into Peterson-Hunting magazine, March 2013 issue. Winchester has a new .17winchester super magnum that is a screamer, at 3000 FPS. It is a great acticle and it compares the .22 win. mag, .17 HMR adn .17 Win super mag. Just my thoughts, WAZOO54
