Just a reminder to all the Cook County Residents and gun purchasers who use Cabelas for their firearms. The new 25$ per gun tax goes into effect tomorrow. Yes, 25$ per gun regardless of size, price, or purpose. So, drive a few extra miles out of cook county, or even out of state and get your firearms. I hate it and I am sure you do to. This tax doesn't even go to the DNR, it's just there. Cabelas gun counter will lose a significant number of purchases, including from me.

Isn't cabelas in lake county?

And I actually looked into buying out of state, the only problem is you need to find a IL dealer to do the FFL trans with and they gen charge around $50 give or take.

The average FFL transfer fee is $30 + -. I have bought a few on line and its super easy and fast. Most gun stores online have there prefered FFL dealers in your area so you just tell them the one you want it sent to. The last one i bought from BUDS guns i payed $100 less than any local gun shop and had my gun in 3 days. Very easy !!!

I'll most likely get my future gun purchases where I hunt down in central Illinois, Lake County or stop at the D icks Sporting goods in Bloomington on my way to hunting camp. I can always check out the gun I want at the D icks on Toughy and then just purchase it on the way there, work (or hunt) at camp for a day or two and pick it up on the way home.

I think OnTarget in Crystal Lake charges $30 for an FFL transfer, then you can shoot it when you pick it up. http://www.ontargetsite.com/

Hit up a gun show in wisconsin. Cash and carry! gave the man cash and walked away with the gun. No paperwork, No Tax, No special fees. Nothing. Nadda. Just Cash, a hand shake, and bye bye.
