I am going to be purchasing a handgun for deerhunting in the next few months. I am looking for some advice or recomendations. What have you guys used and liked or didn't like. I have been looking into the 44 mag ruger redhawk?

I have 2 rigs for hand gun deer hunting. Both are 44mag. First is a TC Encore with a 14" barrel and topped with a 2x7 Burris handgun scope. It is by far the most accurate of the 2 guns. From a bench I have been able to achieve excellent 100 yd groups. Last winter I picked up a S&W 629 with 8"+ barrel and a Leopold variable scope. Haven't worked with this gun a lot but have been getting good groups at 50yds from a bench. I roll my own loads and have had excellent results using Hornady 240g XTP's. Never owned a Ruger so cannot comment on the Redhawk but I have read that they are reliable & accurate guns in large caliber platforms.

I use a ruger super redhawk with a scope. Works great. I hunt with a few guys and most use 44, some have 357 and one guy has a 460. Deer cant tell the difference. If you decide to use a scope, the red dots dont seem to hold up well to 44 recoil and the cold of late season hunting because of battery (if you plan to use in January. I have a 3 power simmons and works great.

I too use a Super Redhawk 44 mag. but I have a 9.5" barrel. Sweet shooter with the long barrel and a scope.

Brian, them deer are in trouble with all of those speed loaders!

I use a Smith and Wesson 357 with hollow points, no scope. Took my first deer with it this year. Make a big hole on exit.
