Hunting season can’t come soon enough. Hell, I’m counting down to the squirrel opener.

I can't wait myself, been a few years since I've been down to my 2500 acres. This was my last big buck I took from there.
Hopefully I can make it down this year to see what I have walking in the woods. Never to early to dream right???.....

I went down to our Leased Property , in Iroquois Co. yesterday . Needed to cut the grass by our Humble Abode , and set up a couple trail cams . I decided to mow my , last yr. Food Plot . It was almost 2 ft. high . Just got into it and a Young Doe , jumped up out of the grass . I thought , UH OH , there might be a Fawn near by , so I went SLOW . Finally got everything cut and the Cams set . Next thing you know , I had spent 4 - 5 hrs. on the property . Time sure does fly , when your having fun ...

PS. 1st Lottery results are posted on the Il. DNR web site . ,,, I got 2 Permits , was denied an A/O Permit , for the first time ever .

I haven’t done a thing yet. Earlier in the spring I removed and adjusted some stands. I’ll probably go out to one of my local spots and mow the grass and trim some trees. As for my farm I pay the neighbor to mow it. It just saves me a trip and about 6 hours of labor.

I cant wait! I want to get down to our property and get trail cams up, maybe move a stand and do some early trimming. During the week I got to start shooting the bow and get my fine tuning done.

Im ready for fall, sick of this summer weather.

I haven't been down to where I hunt since February due to covid. My buddy that lives there has been doing a lot (due to covid, lol). Looking to heading down in a couple weeks and getting 20 or so cameras hung, replace ratchet straps and plant some food plots. Did have a buddy purchase 20 acres within a few minutes of my house so looking forward to setting up a stand there this year. Camera from last year had a lot of deer and a couple good ones as well.

I got down to our property , on Sat. I have 3 cams out. All told , in about 6 was. I got 550 pics . All sorts of assorted wildlife , which my family enjoys looking at . Especially the Grandkids . Lots of deer pics too . There is a Doe w/ triplets . Several other D/Fawn families . I identified 8 different Bucks . ALL still in velvet . Blondie is a light colored 7 pt. ( wider than his ears , and pretty tall ) , Red is a Red colored deer 8 pt ( like Blondie ) , and then there’s LOGGER . OMG , he has logs comin out of his head . Big as my wrists , and I’m no Lil Guy . Not going wide , but , prob. 20+ in. Tall already . Couldn’t see how many points . Plus a bunch of other Bucks .
Changed out the cards and left them running . Goin back in a week or 2 .

Mission accomplished for me. Cut the grass and I was able to put up one camera. I’ll put up one more tomorrow. I also put in for the archery tag.

My buddy bought 20 acres about 15 minutes from my house last summer. Mostly marshy tall grass with a few acres of high ground. Had a camera out there last year for a bit and probably got 10 does and 5 or so bucks, couple decent ones that I hope blow up this year. Really only one or two trees to put a stand in so brought a ladder stand out there last week. Grass was shoulder high and it was a PAIN to get it to the tree I wanted. I got it out to the tree I want to put it in, now just need to put the steps together, clear some branches (and the buckthorn in front of it). Deer all seem to funnel within 30 yards of this tree and may stack some brush up so they have to go within 25 yards. Once Mid October hits the grass should lay down a lot and I can sneak in through the woods so I'm never in the grass. Most likely use this spot to fill the freezer but if a good buck shows up on camera I'll be after him. Still a fair amount of ag in this area but also 15 year old housing developments too but nothing within 3/4 of a mile of so.

Made it down to our hunting property again , yesterday . 3 Cams , 180+ pics . Lots of wildlife , and Deer . The Fawns are getting big . I got several different Bucks and a dawn light pic of THE BIG GUY . Still can't see how many pts. But , he's THICK and TALL . Only one Buck out of velvet , on my cams , NOT the BIG GUY . The storm , last week gave us some tree damage . Now we gotta go back to clear our access road .

I was able to put up one of my cell cameras on Friday and had three smaller bucks (two six points and a small eight) as well as a doe and two fawns. Fawns are already spotless as well. I don't hunt this spot too often, more for my dad to shoot a couple deer in his ground blind. I'm going to try and pick up a couple of those tactacam reveals from BPS in there still in stock. Reviews seem to be great for a $99 cell camera and monthly cost is only $5 to $13 per month the months that you use them. I'd like to get one on my new local spot and one down in central Illinois to see how they work.
