Mr. Dale Bowman reports a good to great sunflower crop at most public places. I've be seeing a lot more doves in the last two weeks but it looks like opening weekend is going to be HOT with 50% chance of thunderstorms. Anyone pre-scout the fields at Des Plaines, I'm wondering if the fields are divided up and named the same?

With the weather forecasted Sunday will the doves be flying? How do they fly when possible storms forecast?

Des Plains was fair at best. I'm guessing the average was less than 6 per guy on opening day.

Kankakee had good shooting for some. I was not one of them. Stuck between two skybusters who thought it was better to take shots at 70 yd doves then allow them to come in. Never again.

Dove hunting public is always interesting. The days of running into the field for a "good spot" are not for me. I'm lucky enough to hunt with 2-3 others so we can usually pinch in a little bit to avoid the "sky busters". My uncle had one next to him this year and I felt bad for him. One of the birds this guy shot landed on the other side of my uncle and he never even shot.

My private field did not pan out this year for doves but hopefully I'm back out there next year.

Sorry for the late report fellows. We were at Green river on 9/1 and were # 4 in the lottery for our blind (spot) When we picked my cousin said the wrong number.
Sand Prairie was on fire. Birds were flying from 12 to5 non stop. I would be willing to bet that there will still be birds after the 5 permit days.
