Question for you guys when applying for the dates for the free upland hunting was curious do they let out a lot of pheasants for the day or 1-2. Just curious I will be trying for the first time and wondering on success ratio. :thanks

Free upland permits are not stocked. You will be hunting for whatever wild pheasants that piece of land holds. First day would be best or you could be lucky if surrounding fields get crops picked and birds will relocated to the public areas.

Like mentioned, they are all free range birds so nothing is released and this land gets hit pretty hard. You need a good dog a lot of luck to get any birds out of these spots, just what I have heard.

LOL, I've shot 1-2 birds every year I hunt on my Free Permit without a dog. Just a lot of bush kicking, and getting back into the thick stuff that most guys pass by because they have a dog to work the easier walking areas. Never noticed a huge difference in numbers of birds compared to a normal pay-to-play permit hunt, but we usually always let the guys with dogs run out ahead of us during those hunts too. I hunted Green River free permit a couple years ago, I bagged one and my buddy got two.
