Where's everyone going this weekend? Was going to do the hardwater classic but not sure with this rain. May head further up north. How's the ice today? Let me know.

If you are going up to Redstone you might also want to check out Dutch hollow lake if you need a change of scenery.

I'm clearly not asking for spots. ICE REPORTS. ill post my report as I always do. That's what this site is for. At least it used to be for that.

I've learned a lot from this site from people sharing advice and areas to fish. I catch and release everything so I just like the hunt. I won't be fishing till later tonight but will report my findings when I do!!

Ok here's an ice report for south of 80.

after the rain melted all the snow and a few inches of ice, there is still 6" of gin clear ice. Carefull it is slick as super slick 50. You can see quite deep which means the fish can see you, use a shanty especially with the bright sun we have for Saturday. Walked the shoreline on a small pond and seen many turtles just below the ice including 2 snappers with 18" plus shells.

bee moths on swedish pimples were working well before the melt up for gills, crappie bass etc.

Did I mention the ice was slick.....wear cleats

We hit willow slough today, on the ice from 10 til 4, ice was 4” thick in most spots, we managed a few gils and saw a couple of really nice bass. Everything released.

Hit a pond that I fish and was surprised to see only 6" of ice on one side and close to 3" on the better end. Managed 4 bass. Would have probably done better if I had access to the other end. Just not thick enough for my liking.

Headed over to Shabbona and fished til dark. Some small perch and a lot of sniffers. Had to work the fish way off the bottom. The ice at Shabbona was 6" max. We tried to venture out but the ice got thin so we stayed closer to shore. Those guys walking out to the trees are nuts. The water and ice was gin clear as you walked out. Tons of baitfish everywhere.

Felt great to get out even though it was freezing.

Might have to forget Mazonia if the ice is that bad. Hard to believe. Maybe I'll run to Monster and pop a few holes to check before the snow.

I was on Arrowhead today. 7-8" of ice. Only got one bass. Didn't see to many on the finder. Word of caution, There are a lot of holes about 1-2' in width that were open water a few days ago. Now they have 2" over them. Most are close to shore, but I did find one about 20' out. Spud your way out there. The ones I saw are not big enough for you to go thru, but will definitely cause a wet boot. These are gassers that punched thru the ice during the warm spell and are just now starting to freeze solid. With all the previous holes drilled, gassers, and wind the ice thickness is pretty unpredictable. So spud bar.
Info on what I call gassers.
