Technology is a wonderful thing
some technology pays for itself quickly when properly applied to a task
A boat is certainly one of those things
When thought is put into the technology of a boat purchase our end result/GOAL is more fun for the dollar spent
After all the fish are always going to be cheaper at the super market sea food department
We may eat the fish we catch but we don't buy a boat to feed the family
We expect a good return on fun for the money spent
if you get a boat that you can take by trailer to lake Erie and fish walleye or cruise over to Milwaukee for summer fest or to down town Chicago for taste of Chicago
use it to fish after a hard days work
What ever the need be if a boat does more than one or two things well all of a sudden you get a bigger return on the money spent
by just powering it with out boards you have at least a 30% longer season Most new out boards will save us a ton of money at the gas pump as well
In many cases for the guy that actually uses his boat the gas savings alone will make the payment

When we Prioritize our needs and wants buffer these priorities with with the budget The end result is one that makes every one happy

Its my job to help find not only the rite boat for my customers but to help them stay with in a budget so they can afford to use a boat after the payment is made
we can help with realistic expectations of what a boat can or can not due
Boating and fishing here on the great lakes is a wonderful thing
more people need to get out there and try it . Money well spent rite here at home.
A nice Disney world of our own

Get the most out of your boat next season!!

Try a new port this next year
by trailer or better yet by water

stop by for more information if you need help planning a trip
Any one want put a group trip together?

let me start with a short list of visitor friendly ports to visit

down town Chicago Monroe harbor
from there walking distance to to the museum of science and industry or the shed aquarium navy pier ect ect ect

Racine Wisconsin short walk to restaurants nice harbor visitor friendly

Michigan city
walk to zoo
matties for a burger
good steak house near the harbor as well

Benton harbor
drive in for boats
Barney boat house

grand haven
board walk

just to name a couple that i have found very enjoyable to visit by water

any one have more ideas of great places to visit by water or land/trailer

Great post Frank and the words of a true professional looking out for the customer to give them great insight on the possibilities available. I plan on doing some upgrades soon and I believe you guys do installs of electronics, Autopilot and trollimg motors etc. I have a question if you dont mind I have a 25 foot SeaRay cuddy and am saving for a trolling motor come spring. What size horsepower would you recommend and would Calumet Marine be able to install and connect the steering to an I/O motor? I am thinking like a Honda 20hp. But would appreciate a proffesional opinion. Thanks and good luck, good fishing always!!

any thing over a 22 we usually recommend a 25 or larger for a kicker
you don't need the HP to move the boat at trolling speeds but the HP will be needed to steer in the wind or a little wave action
another consideration for .
Find the one with the largest charging system you can get
often the charging system is a after thought that is discovered when a auto pilot or other electronic devise starts having problems
seems these days their just in never enough charging system to go around

Gary

A new 25hp Honda hooked up to a TR1, hooked up to a couple of Garmin 8-10" touch screens and radar and a FishHawk.
Sweet rig.
12-15g's should cover it with installation and sea trial.

Did I forget anything? LOL

Tr1 gold units capabilities top out at 20HP
we would have to upgrade to ghc-10 with a 2.1L pump to pilot a 25 or larger and the ghc -10 wont control the throttle

if you want the TR1 we would normally put a 5" p prop on a 20 get the motor mounted as close to the centerline of the boat as possible
this would keep the cost of this set up way down A guy with this size boat is rite there at the limit of what a 20hp will do for most week end warriors they would be happy with this set up
but if you have a tournament fisherman that has to fish in some tough conditions this guy will have problems when it gets windy.

all mechanical systems have limitations their capabilities are often hard to understand we can only judge this by our extensive personal experiences
seems like there are no two boats that act the same there can often be some trial and error involved no matter how much experience you might have
to many variable go into these set ups
i certainly can tell a lot more by actually seing a boat

we have fished with out auto pilots for a long time just in the last few years they are becoming more popular because of two main reasons
#1 It lets the guy that spent all his hard earned money on the boat to get back their and fish !
#2 they have got a lot better the last few years and can actually steer the boat well at 2-3 mph rite where we have to be with speed to catch fish

got more questions shoot me a email or a pm will be glad to help if i can

Frank
