Caught 3 crappie and a Pike

When cranking the last crappie in, a LMB followed it to the boat and looked like it wanted to take a chomp of it. But never did, threw everything in the tackle at it but she wasn't interested. It even followed the Pike to the boat.

I think it was just protecting a spawn bed?????

Here is a short video of it, the bass was every bit of 5 pounds, you could not tell by the video though

I want to load a picture of the Pike but I cannot figure out how on the forum.

Rubicon,

I also fished some strip mines south of I-80 today. All bass, crappie and bluegill are pre-spawn and were slow to bite earlier in the day, later on after around 2 pm they became much more active. Best bite came in back channels and small bays with more color to the water "less clear". Between 2 of us we caught at least 50 crappie, kept 12 over 10" and 2 gills over 8", released a number of buck bass and a couple real plumb rockies. Main lake areas were completely unproductive despite excellent looking woody cover, water was much more clear and a few degrees cooler. This coming week of warmer weather should really turn on the bite. Minnows fished 4 ft below a slip bobber did the trick.

Fish on

Thanks for the report - those lakes are very productive, I recall last year they caught a giant muskie out of there they thougth might break the state record.
