Just go out and fish for them. This year is your best shot as illinois has dropped the stocking program. Too bad. Would be cool to see a fishing club pick up the slack and institute a 1 fish 30" limit.

I brought up fishing clubs/high school clubs to the DNR about helping out. I was told no way because of insurance reasons.

Every time I hear "Insurance Reasons" from an appointed state worker I think what they are really saying is that I'm afraid someone might figure out that my cushy job and massive pension could be better put to use by allowing engaged citizens with a vested interest to manage what I do halfassed, if at all. Mind you I'm not talking about the guy who unlocks the gates, cleans the parks, mows the grass, manages the fishery, the people doing the work. I'm talking about the guy who would say "insurance reasons" to a group of people who give a rats-behind. Insurance reasons is the biggest lie told by those who have no other excuse.

I'm heading out tonight for striper - conditions look good we will see if they are boiling.

Hey RiverRat do you do "jump fishing"for stripers on calm evenings like I used to at Lake Thunderbird? It used to be a blast chasing them busting shad with surface lures.

I wasn't referring to helping out at the hatchery. I was talking about a club buying fish and stocking them. FRV stocks muskies in the fox chain with the DNR's blessing. Other musky clubs do the same and in other states. I bet the DNR would welcome a club putting them in heidecke and lassale. The stricter size limit would male it more viable with less fish.

Or a few nice shots of white bass to compete with the yellows.

Got it Todd. Sounds like a interesting project for sure. Might be A hard road tho. It would take a fundraising effort for sure. Could be a topic to bring up to a club meeting. Me personalty I do not have the time to dedicate to push it along. Maybe someone reading this post would like to bring it up at there club the next meeting. Who knows, the DNR might start stocking them again now.

Went out and got skunked - talked to a guy said they where boiling around 5pm near the bridge but it didn't last long. Fished from 6:30 to close and only one blow up we missed.

Funny coincidence as I got a mailer from Rep David Welter out of Morris talking about some the positive things that have come out out recent legislate session as there wasn't much, but something think is a positive step forward:

:thanks :thanks
