I’d like to hit Heideki Friday, but not sure if I want to go, if I can’t get under the bridge. Have a 16 foot with a full windshield. Any updates would be appreciated.

The water is pretty high and chances that you’ll be able to get to the north side with a windshield are not good. But what’s wrong with fishing the south side?

You are not making it under the bridge with a windshield. I have a tiller and can get under by taking my motor cover off, put my trolling motor in the water and lay on my back. Some bass boats have been under but I think they are pulling the plug. One person I talked to said as much. Lake is down about 5" since May when it was quite challenging. Still plenty of places to fish on the south side.

Might be some big waves if it's this windy tomorrow.

Watching the Sox now, so I have no problem with the south side! Just really like fishing back by the Island. If I go, I will post a report. I really appreciate the responses, that’s what makes this site the best Chicago area fishing site on the internet!

SW, W, SE, S winds are an issue for the bridge. Anything N, NE, SE, E is not.

It has been awhile since posting but I'm still out here. Not only can I not get under the bridge the south side fishing area has shrunk. Restricted area has grown, I have way points that were hot fishing spots are now west of the buoys. I suspect tectonic plate movement or similar global event is the cause.

Answer is, slow, lots of bait everywhere, few yellows, one legal eye with 6 shad in the belly. Too much bait, everywhere 10 to 15ft had shad, you could see the fish working the bait trailing the schools underneath on the meter.

If I can't get under the bridge I'm going to the River or Braidwood instead. The problem with the south side is that its always crowded, the structure is smaller, too many community holes, and the dead areas are much bigger. Have access to both your fine, confined to the south side only and if they aren't biting in a few spots its going to be a tough day(and if someone sees you catching you will have company soon)
