You'll prob get 90% pro-Sit On Top endorsements here. Lots of pros, as far as fishing setup, accessibility, getting back on if you dump, etc.. LOTS of really nice fishing SOT's out there. Very stable, made that way to more than compensate for a higher center of gravity.
As far as decked/cockpit kayaks, you'll have a lower center of gravity and the same length boat will generally be quite a bit lighter, as far as getting it up/off the top of your vehicle or storing in a garage. And you can still get a decent fishing setup in one.
Shop around, sit in some if you can (or even test paddle), and get something you feel comfortable in.

I am not an avid kayak fisherman. However, I have fished on a Sit-on and in a Sit-in a few times each; and from a novice/newbie perspective the SOT was way easier for me to use while fishing than the Sit-in because I had better range of motion. Plus, it seems like the SOTs have more usable space for easily-accessible storage, and the one I have fished on I am able to stand on while casting with little/no worry of tipping over. Again, I do not have a ton of experience, and there are some guys on here that I'm sure can give more info.

SINK
- Lower CoG
- More protection from the elements, especially with a skirt
- Generally lighter
- Less room to move around
- Less room to store gear
- Not self-bailing
- No standing (unless you're really talented)

SOT
- Self-bailing
- Standable, if you pick the right model
- More angler-specific options
- Heavier
- More room for gear

You get the idea. I'm a SOT man myself, but go with what works for you. There's a guy from Chicago that chases Blue Fins off the Boston coast in a little SINK.

Seconded! The Prowler 13 is a good boat to play with. The 400lb rating is a bit optimistic though.

My cousin manages Rocktown Adventures in Rockford and hooked me up for a day on the rock river with a Jackson Sit-On-Top fisking yak. Don't remember the model but it was incredible. Could sit and stand comfortably. Sit-in Kayaks always tend to mess up my lower back.

Like others said....take a couple for a spin

I have 3 Jacksons all SOT

COOSA, CUDA and CRUISE.....love them all for different reasons and water types

All afford you the ability to stand and fish
All have great storage
Great tracking etc....

Thank You for the responses. I will try a few out when the weather cooperates. Sounds like I will focus on the SOT as I like the idea of being able to stand up if needed. Thanks again.
