Come join us for our last club tournament of the year. This is a make up date for a cancelled May tournament due to bad weather.

Tournament boat is Time Off.

Run time is 5:30 A.M. with lines in the water at 6:00 A.M. and you must be back in the harbor at 1:00 P.M.

The boat of the year award is up for grabs, come out, fish and see who wins. Johnny Lazarich is grilling pork chops.

See you Saturday, weather looks good.

As we headed out of the harbor into 2-4 ft seas I thought, geez, I hope these conditions improve? Thanks big guy, by 10:00 A.M. it was beautiful out as the lake calmed down nicely and it was a glorious sunny day. The fishing remained hot and heavy as the fleet recorded 7 more grand slams, ho hum. :) 14 boats weighed in the 10 fish limit and we weighed 182 fish for 1165.6 LBS. The boat of the year was decided in exciting fashion and we had our largest Big 3 weight of the season with 55.4 LBS. Just a terrific final event and an awesome barbeque to end it.

1st Place - Fish n Crew, Captain Greg Williamson, 97.7 LBs with a Grand Slam = 262.7 Pts $95

2nd Place - Grey Lion, Captain Jim Nelligan, 70.9 LBS with a Grand Slam = 235.9 Pts $57

3rd Place - Time Off, Captain Doug McCallister, 63.3 LBS with a Grand Slam - 228.3 Pts $38

Big Fish of the tournament, Follow Me, Captain Kevin Massard, 22.4 LB King = $190.00

Big Target Fish, Fish n Crew, Captain Greg Williamson, 2.9 LB Brown Trout = $76

Top Rookie Boat and Rookie Boat of the Year, Lester's Dream, Captain Mark Boothe. Winner gets a plaque we hand out at next April's pizza party.

Big 3 winner: (Sponsored by: Advanced Automotive of Palatine, Duck Bill Charters, James P. Maechtle Decorating and Thermalcraft Inc.) Follow me, Captain Kevin Massard, 55.4 LBS, $250

Big Fish of the Year, Line Breaker, Captain Al Sahli, 22.9 LB King Salmon caught 8-13-16 $121

We averaged just over 20 boats per tournament, that's a good turn out, many thanks to all you folks for showing up and providing some great competition and a whole lots of laughs. It was a terrific year, made better by your participation.

Boat of the Year - Time Off, Captain Doug McCallister. Congratulations Doug, and to your talented crew! A late brown trout caught near the end of Saturday's fishing time, sealed the deal. Way to win it guys.

Johnny Lazarich provided the food for our tournaments all year and it would be hard to beat the job he did, but he has already volunteered to cook again next year, so stay hungry my friends. Thanks Johnny!

As the tournament chairman I want to thank all the guys who do so much behind the scenes to organize and run our events, Kevin Massard, John Massard, Mike Mayworm, Don Piorek, John Straus, Lou Champa, Jim Maechtle, Jim Stepp, Bill Meier, Doug McCallister, Mike Graziano, Mark Sandahl and anyone else I might have overlooked. We can't do this without you.

One last item, Green Machine, a 17ft Sylvan, was runner up in our Boat of the Year final standings. For all you guys who wonder if you have the right vessel to compete, there you go. Congratulations Captain John Straus and crew for a fine year. #yotgm

Thanks Jim and everyone who puts in the time to run these tournaments. We all had a great time this year!

We were thrilled to take second overall this year. Lots of luck and a little hard work was the recipe for success.

As Jim said - we fish out of a 17 foot Sylvan ProSelect - which is a deep v with 115 hp Merc on the back. So I agree - anyone can sign up and expect to have a shot at winning. To be honest - we have fun whether we win or lose. Fishing with your kids and buddies and then the cookouts afterwards always top notch. Knocking off some of the big boats along the way just adds a little icing to the cake...jk!! :D :D

We also got a bunch of on the water fish reports from boats both in front of us and just behind us in the ytd standings yesterday. Kind of says alot - thanks guys!!

Well, the final tournament ended the way it started for us on team Time-Off...a real nail biter! We knew that after wiping away our worst tourney, we were trailing Doin' Fine, and several boats were less than a slam behind us. It was gonna take a slam to win Boat of the Year!!

We found some real good fishing out in deeper water, which is where we set up, but had to make a rip and run to stay on the fish while being pushed by the waves off of them. It took until our 13th fish to find our 4th species (Coho) to set up a slam. We caught a 14th fish while pulling rods to run for a Brown, which would prove to be foreshadowing for how our day would end...

By the time we got to our first Brown destination (the rock), we had just over 2 hours to find a Brown, and we would need it. We pulled rods and ran to 3 different locations, and fished for nearly 2 hours looking for what we knew we HAD to catch. Without so much as a sniff the whole time, we decided to pull rods and try a last ditch effort to make a couple passes in one final location before run time. The first rod we put in the water was the rod we all decided leave for last, and just as Mike went to pull the rod it fires!! A scrappy 2.4# Brown that decides to jump over the net, around the rigger cable, and winds up on the motor platform for Eric to net!!

It truly was miraculous that we caught and landed that fish, and I can't help but feel it was symbolic of our team's attitude of never quitting, and never giving up hope. We all worked hard all year, and it paid off for us.

Thanks, Jim, for being such an awesome President and Tournament Chairman, and thanks to everyone that works so hard to make these tourneys happen. It was a great time at every weigh-in, and well worth the price of admission.

Here's a video of us nabbing the Boat of the Year Brown....just so you all know we weren't making the story up :winker

I'd also like to thank all of the people that make this tournament series possible! It's not always an easy job, what we all need to realize is that without the hard work by our tournament committee and other supporting members, the weigh-ins tournament overall would not run as smoothly as they consistently do!

I can say that without a doubt this season was the most fun I've had since starting to participate in the tournaments 5 seasons ago. I look forward to next season and hopefully even better fishing!

One thing that is apparent by the last couple of tournament results, is that we're all becoming better fishermen, the number of grand slams turned in between the last 2 tournaments is the highest I've ever heard of. Showing that we're growing off each other and able to put a more diverse catch together!
