We are planning to rent a pontoon boat on Tuesday. I'm not asking for secrets but maybe some general info to make the day a little more successful. I'm looking for panfish. Off course, a walleye wood make my day. If anyone else is going out there, come and say hello.
thanks in advance for any info.

Suggestion did you ever think of hiring a guide, The Crappie Professor guides out of a pontoon boat, supplies everything and you'll learn alot about the lake in one day
and have a great day to boot.

I would purchase a lake map to help locate all of the cribs on the lake which you should be able to get at the bait shop. Fish slip bobbers with small plastics and/or live bait at varying depths and you'll find fish. Ask the guys in the shop and they could help dial you in.
As for walleye, I had luck when I was a kid fishing the sunken river bed on the north end of the lake with just a split shot and a minnow off the bottom. Haven't fished walleye there in years though.

You can also search the history here for the crappie professors old posts on Shabbona. Also check the history and current reports on lake-link:

Good luck!

Thanks wats, we did that today along with the help of a fellow chi-town angler. It was tough spotting cribs and holding over them with wind and pontoon. We caught crappie but the largest was 91/2 in.

Nothing wrong with 9 1/2" crappie. They are the best eaters.
