I posted this before. I'm pretty sure that we are going to go with the Fish Hawk. We missed the SU swap due to a pre-paid vacation. We joined SU this year and are looking forward to all that it offers. Anybody has anything to switch our minds? We know that we went on some boat rides last year looking for fish even that we had a pretty good year for the first season with all the fixes on our boat we bought. Can't wait to get back on the water!!

Depth Raider is faster to update but you have to cable to deal with.

Fish Hawk is what I have. Just get the normal fish hawk. The one with depth has a really slow update rate and makes it tough to dial in speed in any sort of waves. The new red screen is nice. The blue looked cool but was blinding at night. I also wish the fish hawk display was smaller as it takes up quite a bit of space. I don't use the surface speed and temp. surface speed isn't very accurate.

The difference for me was whether I wanted to drill holes to mount another transducer vs deal with a coated cable. I opted for the Depth Raider and the coated cable. In the 10 or so years I have had it, I've only had to replace the cable once. And the battery life is amazing. I put a new 9V in the probe in April and it is good all year. Good luck with whatever you decide.

When you loose the probe you can get the old style (X4) without depth and it will be much better and still works with the depth display (X4D). Still not same update rate is depth raider but works well.

I love my FishHawk X4.

If you go with it can I give you a tip.
After your done fishing make sure you take the protective rubber (Probe Bumper) Off and dry it off along with the everything it protects.
They say this in the manual but I didn't realize how important it is.

If you don't moisture can sit in there and your probe will still be running while being stored and the AA batteries in the probe will wear down even when not in use.
I found this out the hard way by arriving at the lake and finding out that my batteries in probe were dead. It was also that day that I realized just how much that I rely on that expensive piece of equipment.

Great luck this fishing season.

So what are the refresh rates - difference between the two?

Rod,
I may be able to help you with that question... After we start fishing this year.
I bought the new Fish Hawk & I'm running both of them this year (2019).

I read the fh Manuel on line. Says it updates temp when there is a change and speed is the average of a 20 second period.

From what I saw the update rate of the x4 was under 10 seconds. X4d was more like 30. makes a huge difference when dialing in speed. in waves the x4d I thought was near useless.

A BIG THANK YOU!! To everyone that gave info on each probe. It truly was a coin flip. I couldn't pass up $419 price on a new Depth Raider this last weekend @ Jalensky's spring seminar. Again Thank You to all who shared. I will give a update during my reports this season. GOOD LUCK to ALL!!
